FILM POSTER

Analysing our film poster:

The characters facial expression on the poster show that she is worried and scared, this connotes that something is going wrong. Additionally, she appears to be stressed as she has her hands in her hair appearing to be ripping her hair our. This portrays that she cannot take it anymore, and the situation she is in is too much for her to handle. Also, the colour of her face seems to be a bit pale and her eyes are open widely; this portrays the idea that she is in shock.

The title of the film is written in block capitals, which gives a hard appearance. However, the cracks in the font connote that the bad thing can be broken down, or it could also portray the idea that things are not going right as nothing is being held together properly. The use of the colour black in the title, connotes, mystery and the unknown. This links to thrillers because you do not know what is the cause of the negative event. The background behind the title is red; this connotes danger, and fear, which highlights the idea of tension. Also, the colour red signifies anger, which could portray the idea that someone is after the character, or that the character has done something to upset them. In addition, the colour red can also connote blood and death.

The background behind the character denotes fragments of visions in a muddled order. This attracts audience, because they will be left confused and wanting to find out more. This connote a lack of understanding so the audience are intrigued to learn more about the plot, therefore making it more appealing to watch. The visions are blurry connoting that what is going to happen is unclear. On the other hand the images are still clear enough for the audience to see that there are bad omens, For example the images of police tapes, police cars and fire engines connotes that it’s not something that the character can control on her own, as emergency services has to help. The small matchstick flame can signifies that it is only the beginning of something evil. There are also pictures of a party which will give audience an idea of what this film is about if they have not yet seen the trailer, the pictures of a party can also connote that whatever happening has something to do with teenagers as parties are usually associated with young adults. There is also an image of a black crow, which signifies evil and death.

Our poster has quite a few similarities as the film poster for ‘Source code’ that we have previously looked at in our research. Some of the similarities are the use of fragments of visions in a muddled order. The film poster for ‘Source Code’ also uses these to intrigue the audience, as it will make the audience want to watch the film to find out more, because they can be left confused.
